RPG Resources for the 20s

Here, for your browsing enjoyment, is an annotated list of links that I've found helpful when researching the internet for enlightenment into the 1920s. As you can probably guess, our home base in the game is currently centered on Chicago.  (Please note that all links should open in a new window.)

Culture

1920-30.com

I'm putting this site here because it seems more focused on cultural history than other topics. This is a fun site to poke around on and there are numerous photos to accompany it all.

Chicago: The Roarin's 20s

This page is part of the World of Darkness: Gotham website created for an MMO based on the World of Darkness Universe, which was created by the same publishers as Adventure! Tales of the Aeon Society. It's a great primer on a variety of topics of the time, plus a glossary of popular slang AND a price list of what things cost. Unfortunately, there aren't any hotlinks to other sites, but it's still one of my favorite places to brush up on the culture of the time. Highly recommended.

Art and Images

Emergence of Advertising in America: 1850-1920

Once again, here's a site that's useful for photographs from the time period. You can also find the names of brands to use in your campaign.

Crime

History

 Ravinia Park

I have a feeling its the kind of spot my character, Bridgette, would enjoy spending time.

Only Yesterday: An Informal History of the 1920s

This is the online version of a popular history book by Frederick Lewis Allen. I haven't read the entire thing yet, but what I have read is quite interesting so far. The book rates not quite 4 and a half stars on Amazon.

WWW-VL: History: USA: 1920-1929

A veritable treasure trove of links to wide variety of historical topics. Plan on spending some time here...maybe grab some popcorn. And seriously, this is an amazing resource. I very highly recommend it if you're at all interested in the actual history of the time

Fashion

Fashion Era: Fashion History of the 1920s

This page is collection of links within the website dealing with fashion in the 1920s. They are usually a combination of essay and photographs. If you need the photos bigger, just click to enlarge. The website is based in the UK, which is handy for researching my character. (Bridgette is British.)
